The plots were not all that original but the way the characters interacted with somewhat stereotypical plots was quite fun. The show also addressed a type of mystery from one of the characters past that was a constant theme throughout the season. The only thing keeping me from giving this 5 stars is the fact that the show was canceled and there will not be any additional seasons to watch. As too frequently happens these days in adaptations, there is a basic formula of a pair of characters I would call the nice, dumb guy, played off against the smarter (by about 2 IQ points) female partner who spend too much time bantering about their competitive merits and not enough time in real character development. In the novels, the characters are much edgier, mutually supportive, and equal in intelligence and perception, with an emphasis on edgier. In particular the written version of Michelle Maxwell is particularly skilled in the brutal (martial) arts including weaponry, which makes her a relief against the general field of screamers and flutterers of the american woman as portrayed throughout recent fiction.

The T V version left no time to develop Kelly Paul and other characters relevant to the book version. That said, I thought is was an otherwise faithful version of the book. The chemistry featured in the book was evident in the T V version. I liked the actors who were chosen. They seemed to be consistent with my image of the book characters. A refreshing change from the way Jack Reacher was portrayed in the movie version. It is really a shame this show was cancelled. We should lobby for another season and give it more support.
